Jun ABE

Jun Abe was born in Japan.
From 1981 to 1983 he got his apprenticeship in the workshop of Master Yu Iida from the school of Capicchioni.
In 1984 he moved to Salzburg (Austria), where he had worked for a year and half in a stringed instrument firm, mainly concentrating on repair and restoration.
In 1985 he moved to Florence, where he began his professional career under the guidance of Master Mitsumasa Usui (pupil of Igino Sderci). Thereafter in 1991 he opened his own workshop and fully became independent.
Apart from the construction of new instruments, he has dedicated himself to repair, restoration and bow rehairing.
In 1990 he met Master Giuseppe Stefanini and paid him frequent visits, then got deeply impressed and inspired by the highly harmonious quality of Master Giancarlo Guicciardi’s violins. Subsequently since 1994, he has begun to take the Master’s valuable advice and learn the creation technique while continuing to improve and develop his own technical skills.
For violins, he gets inspiration from the models of Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesu’, whereas for violas, he constructs his own models as well.
He uses an interior mould, the linings are in willow.
The oil-varnish is done following the tradition. The very soft, always clear and brilliant oil-varnish is, from the yellow-gold to red-orange, reddish-brown color.
Since 2000 he has become a member of A.L.I.
